Our blog begins now...  Blogi Nepalin matkasta alkaa...

Due to technical limitations (did not have own computer with us) and tight schedule we decided to share our photos and short comments mainly in the Facebook.
Now that we have returned home we will publish more pictures from our trip and write short comments in this blog. Apologies that these will come two weeks after the trip...

Landed in smoggy Delhi on schedule around 5 AM after a very convenient flight, even if the sleep was very short. Transfer in Delhi is sort of complicated, but we got onboard Air India to Kathmandu without too much problems.

Sky started getting brighter and we had a splendid view of the Himalayas, just as during our first flight to Kathmandu in January 1980. Before landing we could easily recognize Himalchuli and Baudha mountains - they were our daily view from Amp Pipal hospital in the 1980's. Landing into Kathmandu valley is always exciting as the hills surrounding the valley seem to come too close...

Tie lentokentälle on leveä ja liikenne vielä jotenkin ymmärrettävää...

You can nowadays fill your visa application by computer, but it still takes quite much time before it is all settled and you plunge into the always-surprising traffic towards the city.
We passed our former employer's UMN (United Mission to Nepal) Headquarters in Thapathali and continued across the Bagmati bridge to our hotel Greenwich Village that proved to be an excellent choice. Good service and also a nice swimming pool. And what is best, the air is cleaner in Patan than in the bottom of Kathmandu valley. And all our friends live in that side of the valley.
