Tuesday 14.10.2014 Rainy Day in Pokhara

It was raining in Pokhara and the forecast was heavy rain (50 mm in 24 hrs) for to-day due to the turbulence in India, approaching now Nepal. Therefore we decided to postpone our trek by one day, as the forecast was promising clear weather from Wednesday onwards.

Meeting Shiva Lal and Krishna Bahadur

We decided to do sightseeing and to visit Gandaki Boarding School that was my first place of employment in Nepal 34 years ago. We were able to send message in advance and we were warmly welcomed by the Vice Principal Shiva Lal Dhital and Administrative Officer Krishna Bahadur Thapa. It was so nice to have a short discussion about the history and present news. We could easily find many common friends and were happy to learn that many graduates from this school are now in remarkable positions in Nepal, and in fact all over the world. It is admirable that this school now has approximately 1070 students and is completely run by the Nepalese people. The school continues to produce excellent results year after year. I think this is what permanent development is at its best, as education plays a crucial role in sustainable development. We also had a quick look on my old office, as well as our first home in Nepal in the school compound.

Seti River Gorge - White River - Valkoisen Seti-joen kanjoni

We also visited the Seti River Gorge that is very deep indeed, and according to the name of the river the water looks white. The rainy day allowed us to do some shopping of pashmina wool and other gifts to be taken back home.


In the evening we had a delicious meal prepared by our dear friend from the time we spent in Amp Pipal, Milan and her daughter Sujayan. The delicious nepalese food is even more delicious when eaten properly by hand.
